Colorful fruit stands, fresh flowers, and live music. What’s not to love about farmers markets? Every day of the week there is a market in San Diego County. Between all the San Diego markets, there are over 5,000 farms represented and around 40% of the producers are women! Here are 5 things we can’t leave the farmers market without.
Produce
It is no surprise that farmers markets are stocked with fresh and locally sourced produce options, so of course, produce is first on the shopping list. Current in-season fruit and veggies to keep an eye out for include: peaches, avocados, cucumbers, blackberries, plums, corn radishes, and cantaloupe.
Bite to Eat
From freshly baked croissants to steaming hot bao buns, the farmers market has an array of cultural foods perfect for eating while shopping. Trying out the hot vendors is a great way to knock out lunch and grocery shopping in one go.
Something Spiritual
Not only can spiritual items, like sage or palo santo, be picked-up at the farmers market, but you can also learn about using them in practice. Vendors are experts in their craft and share traditional uses for their goods.
Gift for a Friend
Nestled between food vendors, stand local artists selling unique goods. Flowers, jewelry, home decor, and more can be spotted at the market. These all make the perfect gift for friends while supporting small businesses.
Something New
There is always something new waiting to be discovered at local markets. Whether it’s something to eat, use, or gift, San Diego markets are known for having imaginative new creations. Recent finds include lion’s mane nut butter, mead, and coconut pancakes.
